Your dentist will gently remove any decay or old filling material, prepare the tooth, and bond the composite resin in layers, shaping and curing each layer with a special light. The filling is then polished to blend with your natural tooth. In most cases, the appointment can be completed comfortably under local anaesthesia.
Like any restoration, white fillings can wear, chip or stain over time and may need to be repaired or replaced in future. Larger cavities may be better suited to inlays, onlays or crowns, which your dentist will discuss with you. Some mild sensitivity is common in the days following treatment and usually settles.
Caring For Your Fillings: Good daily care helps your fillings last as long as possible.
Use a soft brush and a fluoride toothpaste.
Daily flossing or interdental brushes protect filling margins.
Frequent sugar exposure increases the risk of new decay.
Persistent pain or sharp sensitivity is worth checking promptly.
Helpful if you grind or clench your teeth.
Your dentist can spot wear or recurrent decay early.
Arrange an appointment with our Holborn team to discuss the most suitable filling option for your tooth. Our friendly team is happy to answer any questions before you commit to treatment.
Treatment is always preceded by a thorough examination and, where appropriate, X-rays. You will receive a clear written treatment plan that sets out the recommended option, alternatives such as amalgam or inlays, the indicative cost, and the expected aftercare requirements.
